Following the great public interest registered in the September 2022 auction, the Books and Manuscripts department returns with an auction entirely dedicated to anastatic art volumes


with numerous facsimile reproductions of the greatest medieval and Renaissance masterpieces. Highlights include titles such as the Books of Hours commissioned by noble patrons such as Lorenzo de' Medici and Bonaparte Ghislieri and the most famous illuminated manuscripts of the Divina Commedia, including the codex that belonged to Alfonso of Aragon.


Lot 244 
[LORENZO DE MEDICI] - Il libro d'ore di Lorenzo de' Medici. Ms. Ashburnam 1874.
Modena: Panini, 2004. A reproduction of the Book of Hours commissioned by Lorenzo de' Medici probably as a wedding gift for his daughter.
The miniatures depicting biblical scenes and motifs are attributed to the Florentine Francesco Rosselli. (153 x 101mm). Copy no. 601 of 980.

Lot 235 
[GHISLIERI] - Libro d'Ore di Bonaparte Ghislieri. Ms. Yates Thompson 29.
Modena: Panini, 2007. A reproduction of the Book of Hours made for Bonaparte Ghisleri,
a Bolognese noble at the beginning of the 16th century. The best Italian illuminators of the period contributed to the decorations:
Pietro de Cristoforo Vannucci, Amico Aspertini, Lorenzo Costa, Francesco Francia and Matteo da Milano. (207 x 145mm). Copy no. 240 of 980.

DANTE ALIGHIERI - La Divina Commedia di Alfonso d'Aragona. Ms. Yates Thompson 36.
Modena: Panini, 2006. A reproduction of the codex of the Divine Comedy created between 1442 and 1450
for the King of Naples Alfonso d'Aragona whose illustration was entrusted to two famous illuminators,
Priamo della Quercia and Giovanni di Paolo. (365 x 258mm). Copy no. 40 of 750. Detailed colour reproduction of the original codex.
