Intense competition and standout sales at the Antique Furnishings and Paintings Auction

Remarkable success for the auction of Furniture and Old Master Paintings on March 26, 27, and 28, with a total turnover of over € 2 million, 85% of lots sold, and a 160% revaluation of starting prices.


The competition among online and telephone participants was fierce from the very first session, leading to significant bids for all sections of the catalogue.

Portrait painting remains a favorite among collectors, with notable sales including the "Portrait of Bartolomeo Concini," attributed to a follower of Agnolo Bronzino (€ 69,300), the exquisite "Barbara Campanini" portrayed by Rosalba Carriera (€ 50,400), and the "Portrait of a Man" from the Flemish school (€ 37,800).

The painting section also saw other notable sales, including a historical piece from the workshop of Aniello Falcone depicting Cardinal Giulio Mazzarino (€ 56,700), "Venus and Cupids" attributable to the circle of Sebastiano Ricci (€ 41,580), and "Moonlight over the Colosseum" by Ippolito Caffi (€ 41,580).

The high standard of selection, including furniture and art objects, rewarded other valuable pieces such as the clock with a musical angel from the French manufacture of Dieppe (€ 25,200), the "Male Bust" sculpted by Pompeo Marchesi (€ 25,200), the elegant silver stand of Russian manufacture (€ 22,680), and the two 17th sculptures "Adam and Eve" (€ 18,900).

Among the auction highlights, special mention should be made of the carpets which, with fragments of the Ushak carpet dating from ca. 1500-1600, nicknamed "Lotto" (€ 27,720), and the Persian Kirman carpet made to commemorate the end of the Great War around ca. 1919-20 (€ 27,720), witnessed a strong recovery in the sector driven by the excellent performance of historical and rare pieces.
