The 19th Century: a growing market winning over collectors

New milestones for the 19th and 20th Century Paintings and Sculptures department, whose two auction sessions on June 25-26, 2024, totaled € 700,000, achieving an 86% sell-through rate and a 193% increase over the estimates.


An edition that captivated the audience with its extraordinary variety of genres and established masters. Among the undisputed highlights, Daniele Ranzoni claimed the top lot with his painting "La principessa Ada Troubetzkoy col figlio Gigi," sold for € 44,100.



Joining him on the podium were Emilio Longoni with "Il canto del ruscello" (€ 37,800) and Angelo Morbelli, with excellent results for both "Marina ligure (Veduta di Vado Ligure)" from 1908 (€ 30,240) and "Pergolato, Colma di Rosignano" from 1917 (€ 20,160)

The monumental "Grande nudo" by Plinio Nomellini (€ 17,640), which mesmerizes with its expressive power, and the four ethereal allegories by Sexto Canegallo (€ 16,380) captivated the collectors.

Among the narrative works, notable pieces include the evocative "Naviglio nella Strada dell'Ospedale, La consegna della legna" by Carlo Canella (€ 13,860) and the poetic "La fine dell'inverno a Prestinone" by Carlo Fornara from 1934 (€ 11,340).

Lastly, a special mention goes to the renowned Japanese artist Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita, whose refined drawings "Ritratto di fanciulla, Hommage du peintre" (€ 17,640) and "Il gatto" (€ 17,640) attracted competitors from the Land of the Rising Sun.
