The eagerly awaited appointment dedicated to Furniture and Old Master Paintings closes after four days marked by the hammering of 1305 lots
A success sealed by a new departmental record: a total sold of € 3.5 million, 220% sold by value and a sold lot average of 80%, with peaks of over 93% in the third and fifth round. While the online catalogue already showed the great return of interest in Antiques with 350.542 page views, the confirmation came during the auction thanks to the extraordinary participation of the public, both Italian and foreign, and to the presence of many important private clients, including the much-noted Collections of Cesare and Gina Romiti (3rd session 21 April), Villa Orlando in Bellagio (5th session 22 April) and Philippe Daverio (7th session 23 April).

The section dedicated to Old Master Paintings proved to be a driving force in perfect health, registering record performances thanks to a proposal able to cross four hundred years of art history. Among the best adjudications, the San Cassiano bishop; San Cassiano martyr, by Andrea De' Passeris (lot 154, sold € 118.750), the San Giovanni Battista by a Veneto Master of the XVII century (lot 145, sold € 106.250), Gaetano Gandolfi with the Bust of a bearded man (lot 146, sold € 100.000) and the Pietà by the Genoese artist Valeria Castello (lot 148, sold € 93.750). The rooms of Palazzo Crivelli were enlivened by the constant re-launches of furniture, sculptures, majolica and objets d'art, as well as silverware, pendulum clocks, carpets and textiles, drawings and engravings by ancient masters, with a pace of competition that had not been recorded for a long time. In a continuous intersection of different genres and eras, the departments have believed in a market sector that sooner or later would regain its splendor and occupy the place of prominence it deserves in the collecting world. Therefore, the catalogue proposed artworks that culminated in an exciting and sparkling spring auction, thanks to particularly competitive estimates.

Among the furniture selection, we find a finely inlaid "Trumeau" of Marche manufacture (lot 127, sold at € 50,000), while among the sculptures, the "Bacchus" in terracotta by Donato Creti stands out (lot 133, sold at € 25,000). The demand for portraits of historically authoritative personalities, such as the profile of Cardinal Carlo Borromeo (lot 696) or the portrait of a Della Rovere (lot 697), both sold for € 16.250, continues among miniatures enthusiasts.
