At Palazzo Crivelli we're getting into the heart of the auction season with the Furniture and Old Master Paintings Sale, which concluded with a turnover of over €2 million, 80% of lots sold and a 162% increase in value from the starting estimates.



Among the notes evoked by the painting "Concerto all'aperto", attributed to a Flemish artist from the 17th century (€ 163.800), four auction rounds featuring two marble busts depicting the emperors Marcus Aurelius Caesar (€ 151.200) and Augusto (€ 113.400), created by a late 18th to early 19th century sculptor, marked an exciting crescendo.

Lot 90
Sculptor of the late 18th century - beginning of the 19th century. "Marcus Aurelius Caesar", statuary marble and breccia bust (h. 97 cm) resting on marble column with square base of later period (h. 110 cm). Our model is a head-portrait inspired by the type belonging to the Antiquarium Forense Inv. 3683: a replica is kept at the National Museum of Naples (Farnese II Sculptures collection, 2009, pp. 98-101, nn. 73-76).

Sculptor of the late 18th century - beginning of the 19th century. "Augusto", statuary marble and breccia bust (h. 98 cm) resting on marble column with square base of later period (h. 103 cm). Our model for the representation of the hair, features and gaze of the Princeps is clearly inspired by the Augustus of Prima Porta, also known as Augustus loricato, preserved in the Vatican Museums.

The artwork "Le tre età”, attributed to the circle of Diego Velazquez, Spain, 17th century (€ 63.000);  the “Scena allegorica” by Amico Aspertini (€ 50.400), celebrating the Italian painting of the 15th century; the small copper  board  depicting  the  "Sacra Famiglia  con  San  Giovannino"  from  the  18th-century Emilian  school (€ 100.800); the two “caravaggeschi” paintings "Suonatore di Liuto" by Nicolas Régnier (€ 41.580) and "Ritratto di uno Statholder" by Gerard van Honthorst, known as Gherardo delle Notti (€ 37.800), are the epitome of an execution quality that continues to captivate collectors.

Remarkable bidding escalations were also achieved in the Furniture section: two rare “flame” vases (€ 41.580) and the Magot (€ 25.200) by Felice Clerici; a lot consisting of two cups and a brass-covered tombak vase (€ 25.200); a pair of mahogany tables (€ 20.160); the half-moon sideboard bearing the stamp of the Parisian cabinet makers “La Jurande des Menuisiers Ébénistes” (€ 12.600); and a maiolica plate decorated with a “baroque fruit” motif from the ancient Antonibon Manufacturing (€ 8.190).

It’s worth mentioning the section dedicated to carpets, which, thanks to the presence of particularly beautiful pieces, drew a significant audience, with top bids for the Persian Mahal carpet (€ 17.640) and the Indian Agra carpet (€ 10.080), both from the late 19th century.
