2 WORLD RECORDS PER ARTIST AND TOTAL SOLD RECORD OF OVER € 8 MLN
An adrenalin-filled atmosphere, enlivened by the numerous bidders’ raisings on the phones and online, sealed the triumph of the Modern and Contemporary Art Auction of 25 and 26 May 2021 with a total sold record of over € 8 million, 2 world records per artist, with peaks of 99% sold lots and an extraordinary increase in value. Confirming the department’s unstoppable growth, which succeeds in selecting and proposing artworks that meet the global market and major collectors’ interest, more than 1.000 bidders connected from the United States, Canada, Netherlands, France, Finland, England, Austria, Germany, Spain and Belgium (just to name a few), and a catalogue that, since its first days of publication, has recorded more than 100.000 online views and over 15.000 digital readings.

"The astounding result of this auction reveals a strong and clear signal: all markets are able to welcome and enhance even artists who have been less well-known or appreciated until now. Freddy Battino (Head of the Modern and Contemporary Art Department) Among the most significant awards, we find Alighiero Boetti's "Insicuro Noncurante", a rare portfolio which includes the most significant artist’s works from 1966 to 1975 (€ 375.000), followed by Sam Francis' gouache "Untitled - Blue Yellow and White", 1956 (€ 275.000), Piero Manzoni’s "Linea lunga metri 5,70", dated 1959 (€ 225.000), then Renato Guttuso’s colourful painting "Coltivazione del limone nel napoletano", 1956, sold for € 162.500.

Extraordinary results were achieved by Giulio Paolini's "Zeusi e Parrasio", 2007 (€ 150.000), Giorgio Morandi's "Natura morta", 1947, Alberto Burri's "Combustione", 1964, Joan Mirò's "Personnages", 1979 (all three sold for € 137.500), John Salt's oil on canvas "Arrested Vehicle Silver Upholstery", 1970 (€ 125.000). The remarkable exhibition history, documented references and provenances from important private collections confirm the certainty of a safe investment, both present and future. This aspect is also confirmed by other Italian 20th century noteworthy artists, such as Felice Casorati with the suggestive "Concerto (Piano, voice and violin)"1948 (€ 87.500) from the Collection of Cesare and Gina Romiti, Ennio Morlotti (€ 93.750), Mario Tozzi (€ 50.000) and Fillia (€ 32.500).
