Important and rare zitan wood table screen embellished by an antique bi jade disc. China, Qianlong reign (1736-1795) (restorations) The Emperor Qianlong used to have his screens mounted with jades, bronze mirrors, inlays and other precious objects on which were engraved verses composed on special occasions by himself or his guests The verses on this screen mention historical figures and famous scholars such as Yang Boyong and Zi Chan and they also refer to the exquisite colour of the jade, being "boiled chestnut", and its virtues.
