PERRAULT, Charles (1628-1703) - Contes avec des Moralitez. Paris: Nicolas Gosselin, 1724.   A rare edition of the famous fairy tales in which Perrault's name appears for the first time as an author in an elegant binding. The 8 fables reported here are: "La Belle au bois dormant", "Le Petit Chaperon rouge", "La Barbe bleue", "Le Maitre-Chat ou le Chat barrel", "Les Fees", "Cendrillon", "Riquet a la Houppe" and the "Petit Poucet ". In writing the fairy tales, Perrault drew inspiration from stories of popular tradition, moralizing them and enriching them with creative ideas.   12mo (180 x 100mm). Engraved headpieces (collation: a4 A8 B4 C8 D4 E8 F4 etc V2, slight wear to the margin of leaf S). Blue morocco with triple fillet on covers and gilt title and decorations on spine and inlays, gilt edges. Provenance: Soldati-Hubbard de Veaux (20th century ex libris).
