TASSO, Torquato (1544-1595) - La Gerusalemme liberata. Paris: Didot, 1784-86.   A fresh copy, with a good impression and in fine bindings of this luxury edition, printed in only 200 copies. "La più bella, la più ornata, e la più onorevole pel nostro Tasso, che sia mai stata fatta insino a questo giorno. Il Real conte di Provenza fu quelli che ordinò e diresse interamente questa superba e nobilissima edizione" (Raccolta Tassiana di Bergamo, n. 293).   2 volumes, 4to (308 x 224mm). Half-titles, woodcut arms on titles, engraved frontispiece and 40 engraved plates by Dambrun, Delignon, Duclos and others after by Cochin (bookplate probably removed on title's verso, occasional light foxing and minor staining, few leaves with light browning, without final blank in vol. 2). Contemporary tree calf with gilt decorated border on covers, spine with red label and gilt decorations, gilt dentelles and edges, elegant dark marbled endpapers (extremities and spine with some rubbing).
