TASSONI, Alessandro (1565-1635) - La secchia rapita. Modena: Bartolomeo Soliani Stampatore Ducale, 1744.   A richly illustrated edition of the famous heroic-comic poem. In addition to the engravings illustrating the chapters, there are also a portrait of Tassoni, two geographical maps (one of the surroundings of Modena and one of the Gulf of Venice) and the reproduction of some manuscript pages by the author. The engravings were made by artists such as Bartolomeo Bonvicini (1669-1738), Giuseppe Benedetti (1707-1782) and Giuseppe Cantarelli on drawings by Domenico Maria Fratta (1696-1763), Francesco Zugno (1709-1787) and others.   Folio (285 x 205mm). Half title, engraved allegorical frontispiece, engraved device on title printed in red and black, engraved headpieces and tailpieces, 17 engraved plates of which 4 folding, one folding letterpress plate, woodcut Ghirlandina tower at leaf 2H6r (occasional light spotting). Contemporary vellum, gilt title on spine label, marbled edges (light rubbing).
