VALERIO MASSIMO (I a.C. - I d.C.) - Exempla quattuor & viginti nuper ivuenta ante caput de ominibus. Florence: Filippo Giunta, 1517.   An edition edited by Antonio Francini, whose name appears in the preface, of the work of Valerio Massimo, which collects facts and anecdotes of Roman history provided to the reader as examples of virtuous behavior. The final leaves include an epitome of Plutarch's "Parallel Lives".   8vo (154 x 92mm). (Lacking final leaf with printer's device, title and final leaves with reinforcements to inner margin, f8 with restoration to outer corner, a1 with a a little restoration to the inner margin, some wormtracks and wormholes not touching text, light staining and waterstaining). 18th-century vellum, gilt title on spine, blue edges (slight staining and wormholes). Provenance: "Di Hippoliti Volpi Mirandolano" (contemporary ownership inscription on title and manuscript coat of arms on second leaf) - "Sic laeta quiesco" (armorial bookplate with coat of arms on front endpaper).
