PARUTA, Filippo (1552-1629) - La Sicilia [..] descritta con medaglie e ristampata con aggiunta da Leonardo Agostini. Lyon: Marco Maier (al colophon Marcellino Sibert), 1697.   This is the third edition of the erudite work of the numismatist Filippo Paruta whose first printing dates back to 1612, with many reproductions of ancient Sicilian and medieval coins. The work was immediately successful and fascinated the numismatist Leonardo Agostini (1593-1676), who edited it in the second edition of 1649 and in the present reprint.   Folio (370 x 230mm). Engraved vignette with Trinacria on title, woodcut headpieces and initials, 152 (of 153) engraved plates (title detached, tiny marginal wormhole at the first three gatherings, browning sometimes heavy and foxing). 18th-century vellum with gilt title on spine label, red speckled edges (red stain on rear cover, tiny wormholes on spine, light rubbing). Provenance: early tiny illegible ownership inscription on title verso.
