RATTA, Cesare (1857-1938) - Gli adornatori del libro in Italia. Bologna: coi tipi della scuola d'arte tipografica, 1923-27.   A limited edition with different numbering and with some of the volumes presented by Cesare Ratta himself with an intimate inscription dedicated to Prof. Giulio Pisani each with a different thought. An excellent and complete copy of the nine volumes of this sought-after repertoire of early twentieth-century Italian illustrators. The numerous illustrations are by Giulio Ricci, Adolfo De Carolis, Duilio Cambellotti, Giulio Cisario, Francesco Gamba, Bruno Marsili, Adolfo Wildt, Benvenuto Disertori, Alberto Martini and many others. Adolfo De Carolis is also responsible for the elegant and modern editorial brochures.   9 volumes, folio (371 x 264mm). The volumes are accompanied by numerous full-page illustrations, both reproductions and originals (minimal occasional foxing and browning). Original printed wrappers with titles on covers and spines (soiling and foxing, small marginal tears, some chipping to spines). In vol. II plate n. 95 by Chiostri erroneously numbered as 96a.   Also included in the lot is Ratta's volume "L'Incisione originale sul legno in Italia" with 300 woodcut illustrations.
