At the time the lake was the largest in central Italy (155 km²) and its draining was the third largest project of its kind in the world after Suez and the Panama Canal.   2 volumes, text volume, 4to (280 x 200mm) and atlas, folio (590 x 470mm). Double half-title and double title in French and English, 20 lithographic plates (title with a small hole and restoration touching a letter, final leaf of text volume with restoration, plate IV with tear at fold, some staining, slight foxing and browning). Text volume in quarter calf, gilt titles and decorations on spine, speckled edges, grey endpapers (light wear); atlas in half cloth, title in black within frame on front cover (some wear, some staining).
