FABRETTI, Raffaele (1618-1700) - De columna Traiani syntagma. Rome: Giovanni Francesco Buagni, 1690.   Second edition after the first of 1683 of the main work of the antiquarian Raffaele Fabretti from Urbino who, thanks to a renewed use of archeography, manages to shed new light on the meaning of the carvings that adorn Trajan's column. Two very interesting studies also follow: one on the bas-relief known as the Tavola Iliaca, the other on the underground channel dug to drain Lake Fucino (or Lake Celano), a hydraulic work hitherto little known.   Folio (320 x 211mm). Printer's device on title, initials, headpieces and many woodcut illustrations, 2 folding engraved plates (imperceptible wormtrack to outer edge of the first plate, some foxing and browning sometimes heavier). Contemporary vellum, gilt title on spine with 5 raised bands (slightly bowed, some wormholes and losses on spine and at edges).

Estimate € 300 - 500
