FABRICIUS VON HILDEN, Wilhelm (1560-1634) - Opera quae extant omnia, partim ante hac excusa, partim nunc recens in lucem edita. Frankfurt: J. Beyer, 1646. - [CON:] - SEVERINO, Marco Aurelio. De efficaci medicina lib. III. Francoforte: J. Beyer, 1646.   A fine copy of th first edition of the complete work which includes both parts usually found separately and which are devoted to a range of medical topics including dysentery, gangrene, birth defects, skull fractures and many other topics. It contains 600 medical-surgical observations collected in 6 Centuriae which the author began to publish starting from 1606 and which are gathered here. Many of the cases described were followed up for years, thus providing an invaluable study derived from a clear vision of prognosis and the long-term results following surgical procedures.   Often called "the father of German surgery," Von Hilden authored some 20 medical books; he was the first surgeon to classify burns and he was the first to advocate amputation over the gangrenous or injured part of the limb.   2 parts in one volume, folio (336 x 213mm). Engraved additional titles for both parts, woodcut vignettes on titles, numerous woodcut and engraved illustrations, one engraved plate bound between pp. 646-647, in very good conditions (occasional very slight stains at upper margin of a few leaves). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine, blue edges (light staining).
