FINELLA, Filippo (1584-1650) - De quatuor signis quae apparent in unguibus manuum. Naples: Giacomo Gaffari, 1649.   First edition of Finella's treatise on physiognomy, which intends to identify traits of the character starting from the signs on their nails and fingers, analyzing their position and attributing to each finger a different planet of the Zodiac. The work is extremely rare on the market and has not been auctioned since 1932 (RBH).   8vo (150 x 100mm). Woodcut decoration on title, woodcut portrait of the Author at A1v, woodcut illustrations and initials (browning, light waterstain at first gathering, few little stains). Contemporary vellum (light rubbing, chipping and tiny wormholes on rear cover). Provenance: "Hos libros habui Roma apud madragolina ? anno 1651" (contemporary ownership inscription at endpaper) - illegible contemporary ownership inscription at endpaper - Joseph de Rossi?
