Lyon: David Forey, 1719.   First edition of this description of the mechanical instrument cabinet of the author's grandfather, Nicolas Grollier de Servière (1592-1686). The collection included watches, locks, glasses, microscopes, military machines, water harvesting mechanisms, a wheelchair and much more.   4to (246 x 185mm). Title printed in red and black, 85 engraved plates by Étienne-Joseph Daudet numbered 1-88, but without plates 39, 48 and 76 which have never been printed, woodcut and engraved initials, head-and-tailpieces (some browning and dampstaining, LVII plate with tear without loss). Contemporary calf, spine decorated in gilt, red edges and marbled endpapers (light staining and rubbing).
