IPPOCRATE (ca. 460 a.C-377 a.C) - Hippocratis Coi Opera quae extant Graece et Latine veterum codicum collatione restituta. Venice: Lucantonio Giunta, 1558.   Third Greek edition and one of the first critical editions of the work of Hippocrates edited by Girolamo Mercuriale, with an index by Michele Colombo. It is an important text from a philological point of view which also reports the translation of the works of Erotiano ("Vocum Hippocraticarum collectio") and Galen ("Linguarum Hippocratis explicatio"). The splendid title is engraved by Giacomo Franco and in 13 sketches it reports topical moments of the most important known doctors.   2 volumes, folio (336 x 224mm). Illustrated general title engraved by Giacomo Franco, title of the individual volumes with printer's device, woodcut initials, elaborate head-and-tail pieces, "secunda" and "quarta classis" with their own half-title (title on guard with wormhole to lower margin continuing in the following leaves, final gatherings of the second volume with restorations to lower margin, wormholes and wormtracks mostly marginal but sometimes touching some letters, light spotting, some foxing and browning). 18th-century vellum, gilt titles on spine labels, marbled edges (few tiny wormholes, slight defects).
