Milan: Artaria, Bettalli, Ubicini e Hugues, 1812.   A wide-margined copy of the first edition of this beautifully illustrated monograph on monkeys. It is a fundamental work both from the point of view of the natural sciences and from the typographical one. Engraved title within architectural border, dedication, engraved index of VI pages illustrated by 3 plates and within border, numerous other engraved plates by Nicolas Henri Jacobs including 70 plates depicting monkeys from the new and old continent divided into 5 classes, 15 plates depicting maki with explanatory text and within an architectural frame, some plates protected by tissue paper; plates in the first part followed by typographical titles in French and German, by pages of preliminary discourse in the two languages and by the explanation of the plates, the second series of plates followed by an engraved index and by an unnumbered plate entitled "confronto di alcuni tratti di descrescente analogia nel profilo e nella fisica costituzione del cranio dell'uomo e delle scimie" (some tissue papers foxed, plate LXII with small marginal tear that touches the engraving, the pages with explanation of plates LXIX-LXXVI slightly shorter at outer edge, occasional soiling).
