CANINA, Luigi (1795-1856) - Descrizione dell'Antico Tusculo. Rome: Canina, 1841.   An excellent copy of this first edition, rare on the market, of the work entrusted by Maria Cristina of Savoy to Canina, a famous Italian archaeologist and architect. The work is very important from a historical, topographical and archaeological point of view, and provides not only a wide repertoire of statues and objects found in Tusculum and then transferred to various Italian and foreign museums, but also a rich bibliography on the subject.   Folio (463 x 305mm). Half-title, title with lithographic vignette, 53 engraved plates protected by tissue paper, 4 of which are hand-coloured and one is in gold (very light foxing and browning). Contemporary calf, title on label and gilt decorations on spine, blindstamped decorations on plates (some wear, defects and slight losses especially on spine). Provenance: Barone Manno (printed on half title).
