DANTE ALIGHIERI (1265-1321) - Dante con nuove et utili ispositioni. Aggiuntovi di più una tavola di tutti i vocaboli [..] dichiarati. Lyon: Guillaume Rouille, 1552.   A fascinating edition with a curious provenance of Dante's Commedia, adorned with a portrait of the author and three woodcuts opening the cantiche. The volume belonged to Count Nicolò De Claricini Dornpacher (1864 -1946), who was President of the Veneranda Arca del Santo in Padua and a great scholar of Dante. His homonym ancestor transcribed the Commedia in 1466, thus producing the Claricini codex, one of the oldest Dantesque codexes in Friuli.   16mo (120 x 70mm). Printer's device on title, woodcut portrait of Dante on leaf a4v, three full-page woodcut illustrations at the beginning of each cantica, woodcut initials (without final blank, small restorations to lower corner of some leaves of the first two gatherings also touching a few letters on title, some small waterstaining and occasional soiling, browning). Modern percalline with vellum spine, gilt decorations and title on spine label, tiny decoration of a wasp on spine. Provenance: Flaminio.. (illeggible ownership inscription on title) - erased ancient ownership inscription on title - private stamp to leaf a3 with three moons under a helm - Comitis Nicolai de Claricini Dornpacher Bibliotheca Dantea (Nicolò de Claricini Dornpacher bookplate at endpaper).
