Venice: eredi di Manuzio, 1571.   A collection of the letters written in Latin by Paolo Manuzio to many renowned personalities of the time edited by his son Aldo the Younger, also complete with the prefaces by Paolo to his editions of the classics. This copy is enriched by contemporary annotations: sometimes, the annotator also improves on the printed edition. At the final leaf, the printer's device of Aldo the Younger is framed by a manuscript index which refers to some of the annotations in the text.   3 parts in one volume, 8vo (148 x 95mm). Printer's device on title and at end of first and third part, Aldo Manuzio's printer's device at the end of the second part, Aldo's woodcut portrait at leaf A1V of the first part and a1v of the third part (annotations slightly cropped, spotting, light browning, light waterstain at the lower edge of gatherings T-V of the first part, marginal wormhole to final gathering). 18th-century vellum, gilt title on spine label, marbled endpapers, blue edges (minor rubbing, darkened spine).
