Palermo: Francesco Valenza, 1742-1743.   An interesting work on the most monstrous, anomalous and inexplicable manifestations in nature, accompanied by numerous quotes from ancient and modern texts and illustrated plates.   2 volumes, 4to (190 x 125mm). Title with woodcut decoration, woodcut initials, head-and-tail pieces, 11 engraved plates (2* with marginal paper flaw not touching text but touching it in K3, reinforcements to the first two plates, plate 1 with a small tear at outer margin, plate 2 with marginal hole and paper flaw, plate 4 with restored tear, restoration with text loss in Z1, some small marginal wormtracks slightly touching the engraving in plate 2 of the second volume, slight text loss in 2B3 of the second volume, second volume without final blank, some staining and foxing). Non uniform quarter vellum, marbled boards, gilt titles on spine labels, speckled edges (binding of the first volume bigger than the textblock, paper flaw to the front endpaper of first volume, second volume with faded edges, slight defects).
