Venice: eredi di Aldo Manuzio, 1527.   First Aldine edition of Prisciano's fundamental Latin grammar, edited by the Veronese humanist Bernardino Donato (1483-1543) who wanted to dedicate the edition "artis grammaticae studis".   4to (200 x 125mm). Printer's device on title and at the end (waterstains especially in the first and final part, some light mold stains, small wormhole to the upper inner margin of the first three leaves, browned). Modern calf that reuses ancient covers and spine, gilt title on spine, red speckled edges. Provenance: Liber Edoardi Leonisii 17 Ianuarii 1596 (neat ownership inscription on the title) - few contemporary annotations - Samuel Edwards (early ownership inscription at endpaper) - "Ex libris Ed. Duff. E. Cole Wadh Oxon" (ownership inscription at endpaper) - Hiram Rockwell Bennet (bookplate at endpaper).
