BACON, Francis (1561-1626) - The Historie of the Raigne of King Henry the Seventh. London: W. Stansby per Matthew Lownes e William Barret, 1622.   First edition of Bacon's only complete historical work; it is one of the various issues printed the same year: here on page 3 line 12 "Souldiers", while some of the others errata have not yet been corrected.   Folio (281 x 178mm). Engraved portrait of Henry IV by John Payne as frontispiece, title within an elaborate woodcut border, woodcut initials and headpieces (some browning and foxing, occasional dampstaining, small burnhole to 2B1 touching the woodcut frame, marginal repair to portrait, without first blank). Contemporary calf, decorated in blind on covers and gold on spine with W.D.P. monogram, red edges, green endpaper (rebacked preserving original spine, rubbed and chipped). Provenance: F.B. Butler (ownership inscription and bookplate) - Hailbury College Library (deaccession stamp and bookplate).
