MALPIGHI, Marcello (1628-1694) - Opera medica, et anatomica varia. Venice: Andrea Poletti, 1743.   A good copy of this later edition, complete with portrait and frontispiece engraved by Isabella Piccini, of Malpighi's work by Poletti, who published the first edition in 1648. The author, founder of histology and great microscopist, was the first to observe the capillary anastomosis between arteries and veins, thus contributing to the completion of Harvey's work on circulation.   Folio (370 x 240mm). Half-title, engraved frontispiece bound at end, portrait of the author, title in red and black with woodcut device, woodcut initials, 19 engraved plates (without final blank, some staining and waterstaining). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine (slightly bowed, spine slightly detached from the frame, wormtracks on spine, some wear). Provenance: "P" (private stamp on half-title and on final endpaper) - stamp on C2 verso.
