LIVIO, Tito (59 a.C.-17 a.C.) - Deche di Tito Livio. Venice: Giunti, 1575. An important reprint, following the first one from 1540, of this renowned translation edited by Jacopo Nardi (1473-1563). Giulio Bernardino Tomitano (1761-1828), a famous bibliophile, reaffirms the significance of the edition in a manuscript note where he asserts that it is the "rarest and most esteemed edition of Livius". Folio (315 x 205mm). Printer's device on title, woodcut initials and decorations (title with small tear restored at outer margin, 2R7 with a small restoration to lower margin, occasional light waterstaining, some browning and foxing). 18th-century marbled calf, title on label and gilt decorations on spine, blue edges, decorated endpapers (slight scuffing and wear, some small wormholes on spine, slight losses to endpapers). Provenance: erudite manuscript inscription by Giulio Bernardino Tomitano on front endpaper.
