The latter went several times to Provence and Avignon to reconstruct the poet's life which was fundamental for the drafting of his commentary, "proposed not following the codes.. but on the basis of all the possible internal and external references that would constitute a lyrical biography of Francesco and Laura" (Pirovano, DBI).   8vo (140 x 95mm). Printer's device on title, initials and woodcut illustrations (small wormtracks touching a few letters on title and on the next two leaves, some leaves slightly cropped to upper margin, some light staining). 18th-century calf, gilt decorations on spine, marbled edges (some losses on spine, some wear). Provenance: occasional contemporary annotations.
