PLINIO, Gaio Secondo (62-114) - Panegyricus. Amsterdam: Janssonio Waesbergios, 1738.   A very fine edition in elegant red morocco of the panegyric in honor of Trajan pronounced by Pliny after being elected consul. This is the edition produced by Joannes Arntzenius (1702-1759) which incorporates the comments of Justus Lipsius (1547-1606), Jan Gruter (1560-1627), Pietro Faver (1506-1546), Jan Lievens (1546/47- 1599), as well as the prefaces and speeches of previous editions. As sometimes happens, the volume is lacking the Life of Pliny.   4to (262 x 202mm). Engraved frontispiece, engraved vignette on title printed in red and black, an engraved illustration, woodcut initials and headpieces (without the Life of Pliny, as it sometimes happens, browning). Contemporary red morocco, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt decorations and title on spine, gilt decorated dentelle, marbled endpapers (light rubbing).
