The engravings are by Chenu, Defahrt, Lempereur, Leveau, Pasquier, and Tardieu based on drawings by Giuseppe Zocchi. Also of exquisite craftsmanship is the bookplate on the front endpaper, engraved by Balthasar Anton Dunker (1746–1807), who was a German painter and engraver, a pupil of Jakob Philipp Hackert and Vien, and gained a good reputation as an engraver.   2 volumes, 8vo (222 x 137mm). Frontispiece with engraved portrait in both volumes, depicting Virgil in the first and the commentator Annibal Caro in the second, engraved title within an architectural broder, 12 full-page engraved plates, and 12 vignettes, one at the beginning of each book of the Aeneid, 6 engraved culs-de-lampe (A**¹ slightly detached at lower margin, very light foxing). Contemporary mottled calf, gilt titles and decorations on spine and covers, gilt edges, blue endpapers (light losses to covers, minor wear). The collation of the first volume corresponds to Variant B as reported by SBN.
