IPPOCRATE (460 D.C.-370 D.C.) - Ludovici Dureti Segusiani Interpretationes et enarrationes in magni Hippocratis Coacas praenotiones. Lyon: S. Piestre & J.B. Delamolliere, 1784.   A critical edition of Hippocrates' "Praenotiones," curated by Louis Duret (1527-1586). Duret was the personal physician to Charles IX and Henry III of France, to whom this volume is dedicated, Professor at the Collège de France, and a renowned physician of his time. His profound knowledge of classical languages led him to delve into the theories of Hippocrates, considered the father of medicine, earning him the nickname the "Hippocrates of France." In this text, he follows the paths of the renown physician, meticulously analyzing Greek sources and focusing primarily on his theories of diagnosis.   Folio (368 x 244mm). Half-title, woodcut decoration on title, woodcut initials and head-and-tail pieces (occasional light staining, two small holes not touching text on final leaf, some light browning and foxing). Contemporary vellum, gilt title on spine label, marbled edges (extremities of covers restored, some stains and a few minor wormholes, lightly bowed).
