Paris: Desaint, 1769.   Second illustrated edition of the work by the naval engineer Dunhamel du Monceau entirely dedicated to the "maneuvers", the set of cables intended for the steering of ships. This edition includes a first part corresponding to the work published in 1747 with its 7 plates and a new part with 6 more plates. After an introductory study on hemp and its cultivation, the author examines the techniques and tools used in the manufacture of ropes by combers and spinners; the second part is dedicated to the advantages of treating the ropes with tar, "gaudron".   4to (260 x 185mm). Woodcut device on title, engraved headpieces and initials, 13 folding engraved plates, woodcut illustrations (browning, very accentuated in gathering D, and spotting).
