[ORNITOLOGIA] - BOOTH, Edward Thomas (1840-1890) - Rough Notes on the Birds Observed during twenty-five years shooting and collecting in the British Islands. London: R.H. Porter, Dulau & co., 1881-87.   A fundamental work for 19th-century English ornithology divided into three volumes and enriched by more than 100 coloured lithographies. The author was a passionate ornithologist and founder of the Booth Museum of Natural History in Brighton, where he placed his own stuffed specimens, recreating their natural habitats; the wonderful illustrations by Edward Neale (1833-1904) derive from the accurate observation of these specimens.   3 volumes, folio (425 x 330mm). 112 (of 114) hand-coloured plates including 2 maps (occasional foxing and small marginal stains, stains to the outer edges of the first volume, light browning). Half calf over dark red percalline plates with gilt titles on spines (light rubbing and wear to the edges and extremities). (3)
