Gera-Untarmaus: Eugen Kohler, 1897-1905.   A splendid enlarged edition of Naumann's fundamental ornithological work, first published in 1822-47, containing plates redesigned to show birds in their natural environment edited by O.Kleinschmidt, J.G. Keulemans, O. van Riesenthal, B. Geisler, A. Goering, and others. The number and variety of birds depicted are surprising, from passerines to birds of prey, ducks, pelicans and seabirds, all rendered with extremely vivid colours and natural poses. The plates at the end of each volume contain illustrations of eggs based on the renowned collection of ornithologist Eugene Rey (1838-1909).   12 volumes, folio (380 x 280mm). Many illustrations, 449 plates, of which 439 chromolithographs and 10 in black and white (light browning, occasional marginal foxing).
