Nuremberg: Wolfgang Endter, eredi di Johannes Andreas Endter, 1678.   First edition of the most complete treatise on riding from the 17th century German Riding School. The author, in addition to providing detailed instructions on mounting and dismounting the horse and dexterity exercises, also focuses on training the horse for hunting and shooting. There is a section dedicated to female equestrian practice and the introduction of a more delicate bite for the horse. The second work consists of a compendium of hippiatry, unfortunately here lacking many illustrations. Winter was a 17th-century German riding master, veterinarian, and writer who focused on publishing writings on the art of horse care and breeding.   2 works in one volume, folio (334 x 212mm). Two engraved frontispieces, 170 engraved plates and woodcut illustrations in the first work, a double-page engraved plate and some engraved illustrations in the second work, woodcut initials (without almost all the leaves bearing illustrations in the second work: C4, D3, F2, G2, H1, I2, Q2, 2A2, 2F2, 2G2, 2H1, 2K3-4, 2N2, 2Q1, 2R2, 2Z3, 3B2, 3E2, 3E4-3F1, 3G1, 3K3-43M2, 2N1-2, 3N4-3O13P2, small wormtraces at lower margin of the first leaves, plate 34 of the bites cropped and perhaps from another copy, without Z6 probably blank, light marginal waterstaining, browning, sporadic marginal tears).
