London: Robins and Lane, 1827.   First edition of these fables published under a pseudonym from the German by Robert Forrester; his brother, Alfred Henry Forrester with the pseudonym Alfred Crowquill, provided the sketches for Cruikshank's delightful illustrations, beautifully hand-coloured at the time.   8vo (210 x 130mm). Engraved frontispiece, 19 hand-coloured engravings (light browning). Contemporary calf, triple gilt fillet on covers, gilt decorations and title on spine, dentelles richly gilt decorated, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (rubbing on spine). It was not possible to find a collation of the volume, but the text is apparently complete.
