Prima metà sec. XVI. -   An interesting collection of plates from the 16th and 17th century. In the first volume the first 4 plates, engraved by Jacob de Weert, are based on the drawings of his master Hieronymus Wierix, and depict allegories of the ages of man (childhood/morning, youth/afternoon, adulthood/evening, old age/night); these are then followed by 6 engravings by Johannes Sadler, again from Wierix's drawings, taken from the series "The sorrows of the world". Finally, 4 plates by Marten De Vos progressively depict the Last Judgment. The plates of the second volume, attributed to the Master of the Dice, illustrate the Fable of Cupid and Psyche after Raphael.   2 volumes, oblong folio (250 x 325mm; 196 x 232mm). First work with 14 engraved plates (browning, waterstaining and minimal marginal tears). Modern boards (light rubbing). Second work with 32 engraved plates applied on to the pages (browning, plate 24 cropped). 19th-century vellum, gilt title on spine label (lightly browned and bowed).
