GASPARONI, Francesco (1802-1865) - Sugli obelischi Torlonia nella Villa Nomentana. Ragionamento storico-critico. Rome: tipografia Salviucci, 1842.   A curious historical work dedicated to the two obelisks of Villa Torlonia, richly illustrated and complete with the frontispiece by Gaetano Cottafavi who drew it from real life and engraved a crowded Piazza Torlonia at the moment of the raising of one of the obelisks. The author traces the history of their construction, from their manufacture in Baveno on Lake Maggiore, to their transport by river and sea, and finally to their placement.   4to (295 x 220mm). Half title, folding engraved frontispiece, 17 engraved plates protected by tissue paper, 3 of which folding (some light foxing, browned tissue paper). Contemporary half morocco over marbled paper with the Torlonia arms in morocco in the centre, rich gilt decorations and title on spine, marbled endpapers (light rubbing especially to joints and extremities).
