Paris: Adrien Menier, 1658.   An interesting compendium on religious orders richly illustrated by the renowned Bolognese engraver Fialetti: after an introduction on their institution written by Trichet du Fresne, 72 depictions of members of the clergy are collected accompanied by a short engraved descriptive text. The allegorical frontispiece, which portrays Religion, is also fascinating.   4to (225 x 165mm). Two engraved titles, one for the text and one for the plates, an engraved frontispiece, woodcut device on title, woodcut headpieces and initials, 144 engraved plates, engraving 42 glued to correct underlying error (wormholes at inner margin touching a few letters, plates 55-59 about to become loose, browning and occasional soiling). Contemporary marbled boards, speckled edges (rubbing and chipping to spine).
