VECELLIO, Cesare (1521-1601) - Habiti antichi et moderni di tutto il mondo. Venice: Sessa, 1598?.   An uncut copy of the second edition, printed 8 years after the first in 1590, of this renowned work on costumes. An iconic work celebrated for its graphic, artistic and historical interest and a fundamental testimony to knowledge of the costumes of the Renaissance era. Unfortunately incomplete.   8vo (195 x 130mm). Title within an elaborate woodcut border with printer's device, many woodcuts illustrating the clothing of the time, woodcut devices and frames (lacking leaves from 3M7, small wormtrack at the inner margin of gatherings H-L, browning, soiling, waterstains, tear on B6 touching text, ink stain on 2F4V, 2M1 paper detached but present, loose gatherings T-V). Contemporary boards, uncut (rubbing and chipping). Provenance: a few early annotations.
