VENUTI, Ridolfino (1705-1763) - Accurata, e succinta descrizione topografica delle antichità di Roma. Rome: Giovanni Battista Bernabò e Giuseppe Lazzarini, 1763.   One of the most relevant and exhaustive works on ancient and modern Roman topography by Ridolfino Venuti, one of the major archaeologists of the 18th century and one of the founders of the prestigious Etruscan Academy of Cortona. The volume presents, in addition to a folding map of ancient Rome, delightful engraved plates illustrating Roman monuments and landscapes; it is unfortunately lacking the plates by Piranesi.   2 parts in one volume, 4to (270 x 200mm). Half-titles, title with printer's device, engraved initials, head-and-tail pieces, 67 (of 96) engraved plates (A3 of the second volume detached, tiny cut to folding map to facilitate its opening, some foxing). Contemporary calf, title on label and gilt decorations on spine (heavy defects on spine and joints, light wear). Provenance: Berens Rome Oct. 1769 (cropped ownership inscription on titles) - H. & Mn. Berens (bookplate on front endpaper).
