Milan: Fortunato Stella e figli, 1836.   First complete edition extremely difficult to find on the market of this important and celebrated work dedicated to Lombardy. Many plates are dedicated to the cities of Milan, Pavia, Como, Cremona, Lodi and Crema, Brescia, Bergamo, Sondrio, Valtellina and Mantua; many others instead show the surrounding landscapes such as parks, glaciers, waterfalls, etc. No complete copies have been recorded at auction (RBH).   2 volumes, oblong folio (230 x 310mm). Maria sopra il Monte in Varese, each view with a leaf of text (foxing, marginal waterstain on the second title, occasional soiling, restored tear on the text leaf of the Resurrection of the Sanctuary of S. Maria without loss of text, restored marginal tear on the Palazzolo plate in the second volume that touches the engraving). Modern half calf using contemporary calf corners and marbled paper, silver title on spine labels (light rubbing especially at the corners, modern endpapers). (2)
