DALI, Salvador (1904-1989) - DANTE ALIGHIERI (1265-1321) - Divina Commedia. Verona: Arti e Scienze, Salani, 1964.   A particularly rare and valuable edition in nine volumes of the Divine Comedy illustrated by Salvador Dalì, with 365 plates. The present volumes are part of a special edition of forty-four copies printed under the direction of Giovanni Mardersteig in the Bodoni workshop in Verona on Japanese paper "Kaji Torinoko". The plates, printed on Rives paper, are presented in Japanese paper passepartouts. In addition to the 6 canonical volumes of text, there are three other volumes, containing a further series of colour plates, a series of black and white plates, and finally the print progression of Inferno's plate no. 16.   9 volumes, folio (344 x 270mm). Copy V of the 25 copies marked A-Z, part of the edition of 44 copies on Japanese paper. 365 plates in total, divided as follows: 100 numbered plates in the 6 volumes of text, 100 further colour plates, 100 plates engraved in black and white, 65 progressive plates (some plates lightly browned). Each volume in original wrappers, leather cases and slipcases, 4 control slips (spines and slipcases lightly darkened, occasional tiny scratches, light rubbing to the extremities and corners of slipcases).
