Rome: [s.e.], 1774.   A sought-after edition of this geography of the ancient world by the German philologist and scholar illustrated by fine maps engraved on strong paper.   Oblong folio (405 x 554mm). Allegorical frontispiece, title within an elegant frame, dedication, leaf with the title "Descriptio Orbis Antiqua", an unnumbered plate with the Sphaera Armillaris, 35 numbered maps, one of which folding, and a second unnumbered plate, all finely engraved (some soiling, dampstaining to lower margin and other stain at inner margin often not affecting plates, occasional foxing). Contemporary half leather over modern paper plates, spine decorated in gilt, red speckled edges (rubbed and chipped).
