MANGANARO, Antonio (1842-1920) - L'Esposizione Marittima Visitata da Dante e Virgilio. Naples: [s.e., 1871].   A copy in contemporary handcolouring with wide margins and complete with all 32 lithographic plates of this renown humorous work which is very difficult to find on the market. As stated in the description of the exhibition held at Palazzo Reale in Naples in the first months of 2022 in which the work was exhibited, Manganaro identifies himself with Dante and, accompanied by a skeletal Virgil, visits the international exhibition in Naples of 1871. The author observes the machines, products and inventions displayed at the exhibition, among caricatures of characters of the time: the fortune of the Supreme Poet lends itself here to an irreverent reading of current events.   Folio (497 x 324mm). 32 lithographic plates including title in contemporary handcolouring, protected by tissue paper (some browning, foxing and staining, few sporadic tears). Preserved in a paper slipcase with cloth spine (defects).
