OVIDIO, Publio Nasone (n. 43 a.C.) - Le metamorfosi di Ovidio ridotte da Gio Andrea dell'Anguillara in ottava rima. Venice: Bernardo Giunta, 1584.   An edition by Giunti of Ovid's famous translation by Andrea dell'Anguillara. The work, dedicated to Camillo Baglioni, features wonderful illustrations engraved by Jacopo Franco (1550-1620), a pupil of Agostino Carraci.   4to (233 x 171mm). Title within an elaborate engraved border, woodcut initials, head-and-tail pieces and decorations, fine full-page engraved illustrations at the beginning of each book (pages 545, 546, 547 erroneously numbered 537, 538, 539, title reinforced and with a small marginal wormtrack, ✝8 cropped at upper margin, B with reinforcement to upper margin, light staining and waterstaining, some foxing and browning). Contemporary vellum, manuscript title on spine, speckled edges (later endpapers with some wormtracks, slight staining and small wormtracks). Provenance: D. Lodovico Pasini (contemporary ownership inscription on title) - another early inscription covered by a restoration on title - armorial stamps at beginning and end.
