DOLCE, Ludovico (1508-1568) - La vita di Giuseppe. Venice: Gabriele Giolito de Ferrari, 1561.   An edition in fine red morocco of the only spiritual poem in Dolce's production. The work, written in ottava rima, represents an attempt to create an epic poem with sacred themes. From a content perspective, it reworks Greek and Latin memories, superimposing them onto the biblical parable. From a formal standpoint, however, it assimilates to the Ariostean model.   4to (205 x 140mm). Printer's device on title and at the end, woodcut initials and tailpieces, woodcut vignettes at the beginning of each book (wormtracks repaired to outer margin of title and the following two leaves, some foxing and browning). Later red morocco, gilt titles on spine labels, gilt decoration on spine and covers, yellow edges, marbled endpapers (minimum wear).
