PETRARCA, Francesco (1304-1374) - Il Petrarca con l'espositione d'Alessandro Vellutello. Venice: Gabriele Giolito de Ferrari, 1558.   An edition of Petrarch's work edited by Alessandro Vellutello. Published for the first time in 1525, it was a real editorial success with around twenty reprints only in the sixteenth century. In particular, the merit of Vellutello consists in the tripartite division of the Canzoniere between rhymes in Laura's life and death and rhymes of political or moral topics. Together with a copy of another Petrarch's edition from 1541 with the commentary by Bernardino Daniello, which belonged to Carlo Archinto, Count of Tainate and renowned patron.   4to (225 x 155mm). Title page within an elaborate woodcut border, initials, woodcut headpieces and illustrations, printer's device at the end (first leaves shorter perhaps coming from another copy, 2*3 with restored tear and marginal restorations to gathering P and Z7, F2 with small paperflaw touching some letters, some staining and foxing. 18th-century vellum, gilt title on spine label, speckled edges (wormholes on spine, some wear)   [WITH, by the same author:] Sonetti, Canzoni, e Triomphi di messer Francesco Petrarcha con la spositione di Bernardino Daniello da Lucca. Venice: Giovanni Antonio Nicolini da Sabbio, 1541.   4to (210x147mm). (Lacking 2N3, 2M4 with a small hole touching some letters, 2N2 shorter, some soiling, occasional waterstaining and foxing). Later vellum, gilt titles on spine labels, red edges, author's name manuscript on lower edge.
