PLUTARCO (47 d.C. - 120 d.C. ca) - Graecorum Romanorumque illustrium vitae. Venice: Vittore dei Ravani & soci, 1538. An edition of the first half of the 16th-century of Plutarch's most renown work. Folio (305 x 207mm). Printer's device on title and at the end, woodcut initials (title with small marginal tears, 2Q1-3 with noticeable restorations to lower margin and partial loss of text, the order of the leaves in gathering 2T reversed, some staining and waterstaining, restored tear to lower margin of H1, some foxing and browning). Contemporary limp vellum reusing parts of earlier vellum, manuscript title on spine (some losses on spine and visible wear). Provenance: Felicity de Mapei (contemporary ownership inscription on title) - "Codex, amicarum, constitit marcellis" (contemporary notation on front cover) - various contemporary notes.
